So like MARTIN GILL...I had expected a 'swift descent' - as his had been...I watched him do it....but the next one over the parapet was myself...and for 'no apparent' reason - that took about 1/2 hour....or that is how it FELT.....time has no meaning, in that sort of situation....
...and then i remembered what TOMLINSON had said about the ill...to never do, what they think that you are going to do...and MARTIN GILL could certainly do that, even with those who 'knew him the most'....
That is what used to make the NY MOB laugh about GILL....he was 'funny guy'...he was 'CHARLIE CHAPLIN'....he was the guy that defied EXPECTATIONS....
You 'expect' one thing off him - you get something entirely different thrown in your face....
...and even I, couldn't predict that one...
I had jumped off that parapet expecting a 'quick death' if what I had just seen MARTIN do, was any 'marker'....he got down, really quickly...
Yet my descent took 'hours' - that is what it felt like - being stopped and made to wait dangling on that cord - every three seconds or so (which i can guess was GILL's way of teaching us all how to 'cope' with that sort of feat)...but i wouldn't open my eyes and so i didn't get 'freaked out'.....i just wouldn't....I mean to say, it wasn't exactly 'scenery in the Swiss Alps' was it?
