I do not know anything about child benefits but one thing is clear from this article - should 'top rate taxpayers' be allowed to claim child benefits at all? If you are paying 40% tax then you are earning quite a bit...on the other hand - only over £30,000 and that is cut down hugely by such a tax and so a large swathe of the population are most probably justified in deserving to claim child benefits...

What makes me really angry is those like NICOLA whatsername - the BANKING employee who lost her job - and who got housing benefits to pay for her luxury mansion and income allowance to pay her pretty much what she had got from the bank as a salary - at least £250,000 per annum along with child benefits which the press reported that she collected at her local post office (with no 'shame' attached I might add)...I found that one really incredible...

The benefits system in this country have always been a fiddle, haven't they?
