...and that reminded me of the French restaurant in KATOWICE....with HAKIM on a Wednesday night...when they did a sort of 'plat du jour' but in the evening (lack of customers)....and it was of what we call 'haricot beans' as in large white beans (actually not 'haricot beans' - looking at photos on the web - and I remember chatting to COLLIE about that one - much larger and flatter white beans unless the EU has been genetically modifying them, along the way)...in the most delicious homemade tomato sauce with a few other things...in GREEN earthenware cassoulet dishes...all very 'proper' I thought...with the garlic bread etc...but HAKIM was laughing about it all...it was so 'provincial'...he had never seen such a dish, served in a restaurant before because the French wouldn't have it...
It was so funny...because it all looked really gourmet and 'classy' to me...but the French would have seen it as 'beans on toast' and perhaps been offended...
All I can say is that the beans looked like this:
