1 month ago Lack of testes suggests the larger of the pair is female (nothing to do with the mane; I know males can be maneless. But they're usually not ball-less!). Certainly same-sex mounting in female lions has been recorded before. But the larger is very big... could just be two females of very different sizes. Or a castrated male, as they usually lose their mane after castration, but then would also usually not mate. Young or inbred males can have no mane, but it's the lack of scrotum that is puzzling!
