OTHER NOTES:

after having watched HARLEQUIN as well as CHINA ROSE this morning...I was to get the overview of what this has all been about...in short, a battle between 'tweedledum' scarlett....and 'tweedledee' toddy...so many years ago now...scarlett had won...toddy then went to china...to figure out how to win the next battle...and as it turns out, his 'successor' martin gill...was to win the battle against scarlett......see previous notes.

...I can remember gill looking at harlequin and telling me that he would probably watch it as many times as those Derek jarman films that I had watched, to complete my MA dissertation...a very important film HARLEQUIN then...it is quite extraordinary in its way...coded out with symbolism, references and inferences/innuendos....so many layers.

anyway, as far as I know...my previous comments upon CHINA ROSE had been somewhat accurate in relation to the 'father rockefeller' out to find his son 'mark r' in china...except that it was PAUL MERTON who was to find him....the film talks about N17 as a triad...go figure...N is a scarlett reference....McDonald and Farrell were trying to stop that 'prince william' import of heroin into china - not out of it...within that quayside 'office'...they were to contact a CIA office further down the bund...

mark r running the heroin trade for a triad...I can remember now - sarah holliday talking about mark r's specialist division in shanghai...and yes, he had been supposedly working for them, at the time...


when your 'pleasure/pain switch is switched'...the best can turn into the worst, according to daldry...and that is basically what had happened to mark r - go figure.
