Apparently GILL's family had gone down to see an aunt Miriam...in London...something like that and GILL didn't have her phone number...it is all very odd...but his best friend's parents got in touch with some people from the local synagogue who had it...and so GILL's parents were informed as to what was going on...I do not suppose that his father thought that he would see him again...parents always 'know' but do not 'know' what is going on...but they are helpless to defend their children.

GILL had probably tranced out through hunger rather than Diabetes...he often had long periods where he didn't eat...he had probably been instructed not to eat, beforehand...
