oh I 'get' it, now...giving yourself a framework, to remember things by...to prevent yourself from 'drowning in the subconscious/unconscious'....see previous notes upon marie louise von franz and her book 'the cat'...where she likens diving into the subconscious/unconscious as being rather like drowning in the sea...therefore you need to construct 'something' in order to be able to navigate...she suggests a ship (representative of Jungian 'tools')...but hey, let's be creative....go figure:
