'open for business'?....hmmm...something around lynch joking about wickham market and its surrounds - becoming rather like interlaken (in terms of a programming location).....open to the world - for tourism/investment etc etc....remember what hanni had said about tourism in the region...the world comes to our doorstep and we welcome them in....remember oscar finding out about the korean-writing-upon-the-wall above the many bikes stacked up behind what appeared to be a shed....and nowhere near to a railway station....however, later on - he was to make enquiries at the nearest station - to find out that the station master had recently hired a korean translator in order to etc etc....anyway, lynch's chosen location represents suffolk - as an ideal english country setting in which to etc etc doesn't it?...just a bit off the beaten track - nobody will take too much notice etc etc....and according to a BBC article that i had read some years ago now - apparently some chinese 'coach party' tourist groups - had a specific idea of what they wanted to do/see/visit...from fish 'n' chips motorway cafes....to idealised 'country village' newly built estates.....and why not, eh?....hmmm...the 'wrong note' here, would be that lynch was....to quote another genesis album...not wind and wuthering, this time...more 'selling england by the pound'....go figure:
...remember that russian student's first essay at warwick - 1996?....all about turning the UK into a heritage park because only 'tourism' appeared to be left as a viable money-making industry....keeping on the royal family as 'fairytale figureheads' to attract more trade etc etc....nothing wrong with that, you might say but politically it has caused a maelstrom.....look at the water companies sold off to private investors....foreign investors...not to mention just about 'everything else'.....and it looks like starmer is going to go back upon his promise of nationalising etc etc...but then he would do, wouldn't he?...nothing is sacrosanct in this country - anymore...the health and safety of its citizens is put in jeopardy....in order to let the likes of lynch and his cronies make 'big bucks' etc etc...as it goes, eh?
