The hand-caligraphed information plaque to the right of the front door reads:
'This edifice for instructing the youth of Harwich in good manners, literature and the doctrine of the Church of England, was founded and built at the proper charge of Humphrey Parsons, Esq. citizen and Alderman of London and Member of Parliament for this borough, A.D1724. The founder begs thee, O Almighty God, to take it into thy protection; do thou prosper the munificence of the illustrious benefactor, and under thy favour may both the youth and the building succeed to thy honour for ever ......'
The mineral plaque to the left of the front door bears archaic-looking lettering: 'SCHOOL HOUSE', which may not be as old as it seems.
anyway, mcdonald's CIA 'japanese' team from warwick - had wanted a quick translation of the following - so many years ago now...and they had also wanted to know who had laid that 'modern' marble plaque....and the answer was: martin ayres...hmmmm...and they had also taken a sample of the stone, to discover that it was some type of 'mineral'....no further information, so far...and so we can posit - what had ayres been up to...had he left himself a reminder of the 'original compound' let us say - as he appears to have done...lol...but for what purpose, exactly etc etc...'we drink to lily the pink' etc etc?.....nota bene the 'chip off of the old block' reference....more laughter...."like father like son" replies BI online...see previous posts....go figure:
and if we're still on bakers, dazzlenation...isn't this all so fascinating:
