....and what else was to come up, this evening?....'young Americans' by david bowie....along with an emet lookalike, on the high street...and something around how so many of us had been 'young Americans' at green tower, little Italy, NY....early lives spent in the UK etc etc...to then be given 'the green card' as it were....see previous notes upon gill, mark r, McDonald and brian-in-Solihull.....'young americans'...and I had wondered about that song, during my youth...because as far as I knew...'young Americans' had a very clear sense of their personal as well as national history and identity...and so the song, didn't really make sense, in relation to an interview with bowie, that I had heard where he was to talk about so many 'young Americans' being clueless as to their identity etc etc...a bit 'rootless' in a way....although, nowadays - the song makes much more sense, of course....when talking about a certain 'class' of person....

hmmm...still quite a bit of this song that doesn't quite make sense, as yet...but I'm getting there...anyway, somebody has quoted the lyrics in 'comments'...which appear 'different' to what is actually being sung...for example "radio ONE dance song that makes me break down and cry"....go figure:
oh and like emet...my American accent used to be 'maine' in the main because I had come late - to NY...and it was the easiest to get the hang of (being closest to an English accent)...along with 'southern belle' now and then......see previous notes upon mark r who had made an extensive study of every American accent/dialect etc etc going....go figure.
