eyre had grandiose ideas...about being a great conductor....he was to show gill his finger...using it as a baton - conducting the frequency 'orchestra' spectrum.....
the marines were to laugh about that one - in relation to telling him where to put his finger....and then proceeded to nickname him 'FINGERS'....and 'fingers in the till'....
