the London marathon as a rite of passage?....this is fascinating, from a personal point of view....because a couple of years ago now - or more...my mother was to tell me that my brother ed had become obsessed with running marathons....apparently he used to travel all over the world, to take part in them....now, for most of his life...ed hadn't been interested in 'sport' or 'athletics' of any kind...he had the usual interest in playing football as a kid but that was all...not a member of any sports club or anything like that...until suddenly...after getting married and having a child....well, according to my mother...he was 'away from home' at the weekends...running marathons, playing in Portuguese tennis tournaments....isn't that odd?
the London marathon....I can remember Andrew marr running in 'that one'....the BBC were to film him, as he ran towards the finishing line...he looked like a belsen victim....too thin to run 100 yards....and he was falling all over the place...it was quite horrific footage....what year was that? probably around 2005, I suppose...when I still had a tv set....go figure.
anyway, I cannot find that footage....on either google or youtube...it appears to have disappeared off of the internet....however, I was to find the following image....remind me, gill...why was that photo, taken - again?...oh and more to the point....does Theresa may own one?
