okay gill...I don't know anything about this story at all...but you had mentioned it once...for me to laugh along the lines of "isn't that just like getting a tan?" i.e. belittling the idea that the whole genome had undergone a significant change....to then qualify my original 'joke' along the lines of "okay so not getting a tan then but covered in soot..."
and having just had a look at the following image...my suspicions are aroused...what can I say but I do hope that they 'dusted' their captured moths before...well, y'know....because that moth to the left....looks like its covered in soot...
the whole thing sounds so plausible and fascinating...and yet I am detecting a 'wrong note' here....I wonder what it could be...oh I know...it's a reference to the SOOTY/SWEEP/SUE show, isn't it?...and I would bet that somebody really had dusted that moth (see above) with soot...you can see the shiny particles....whether or not the research is 'real'...go figure....they had done, hadn't they?
let me see...well that image...see below...could haunt your nightmares...having been drugged into submission beforehand, I hasten to add...
and so could 'that'....remember the sooty and sweep show was all about programming young children with zygote slavery...having your 'chimney cleaned' and the 'cobwebs' swept away by the sweep etc etc....
