'noise pollution'...clacton haz it...
or rather it did, on friday evening...for a few hours....and what was going on? i have no idea...i didn't go to inspect whatever the local council had allowed to blast out of various loud-speakers...somewhere in the middle of clacton - probably 'the fountains' location, i suppose....and so i pity anybody with a flat over that particular area....or for that matter - anybody with flats overlooking the general direction of the pier-in-summertime...when this type of 'noise pollution' event, tends to occur.
....and so what had been going on, then?....a radio show/organised clacton council 'event' at the fountains...or something like that?...no idea...all i know is that the town council will have been hit by many, many complaints afterwards....you see - the noise had been at 'noise pollution levels' where i am living....and so if you had been near to those loud-speakers...well, it would have been so loud that i doubt whether you would even have been able to hear the pop-song-in-question....too loud to differentiate, you see....which is what it is like - when something is just far 'too loud'....unfortunately a lot of promoters 'know the game' and put the sound levels up far more decibels, than is allowed, at the beginning...to then get 'told off' by local agencies....and so why do they do it?...well, they hope to pull the crowds in before they are told to 'turn it down' - which is what they then do (but they have to be told to do it)....go figure.
Anyway, 'whateveritwas' didn't go on for long....and in view of the local elections...it could have tied in with that....and so a 'word of advice' to those who 'win elections' or simply want to promote 'whateveritis' that they are selling....
...try thinking about the whole population rather than those aged 12-19 years old...in terms of the music that you choose for these public events....clacton is a seaside resort with a lot of very young children....mums and dads.......and a lot of very vulnerable people...retired people etc etc....and as a town, it relies upon a 'traditional english theme' in relation to attracting tourism....and so in relation to local councillors hiring in 'acts'....and i 'know how it goes'...they want a top class act but can't afford it...they are then shown a long list...and they can only afford the 'dregs' at the bottom of it...and so they then 'go for that'....which ends up in a terrible act...which appeals to nobody...not even teenagers-on-drugs....ha ha ha...but seriously....
....my suggestion is...this summer....because i want to pre-empt the whole situation, if i can 'before it happens'....my suggestion is to go for the 'classic acts'....even if they are bands-who-do-other-bands-songs...'old favourites' that just about everybody likes....such as songs from the beatles....rod stewart and the faces....the rolling stones etc etc....oh and what about a bit of ethnic 'classical'...nobody minded the peruvian flute music, at the fountains - did they?....a 'plus' as far as i was concerned, for clacton council - because so many people stopped to look and listen to the Peruvians 'doing their thing', at the fountains - as well as donating money to their cause....
....and what about 'european classical'?....who could 'mind', listening to italian opera?...i.e. what the football terraces have loved....and i'm not talking 'just one cornetto' here....people aren't that dumb....why not have a bit of 'classical' rather than...."some terrible third-rate pop music designed to keep the young happy" replies MI5 ONLINE.
...the young happy?...most teenagers are so 'snooty' about generic 'rubbish' churned out by music companies...that when it is put on in a town centre...well, who does it attract?...does it entertain anybody?...what purpose does it serve?....my own feeling runs along the lines of....those who want to pelt rotten eggs and tomatoes/vegetables along with the entire contents of their chamber pots, out of windows...and yes - well, that had been my first thought...if i had happened to be living in one of those flats overlooking the fountains...early on, friday evening etc etc and simply because of that dire 'noise pollution' muzak....go figure.
....and therefore...putting on 'old favourites' - instead of paying through the nose for what they can actually afford i.e. 'the-last-act-on-the-list'....would save clacton council so much money...wouldn't it?
....'old favourites'...classical or modern would be more than likely, to appease the incoming tourists (who only came in the first place because they had figured that it was a 'traditional' type of place) as well as not getting the backs up of those already living here....go figure.
hmmm....remember morse and his love of classical music?...there are so many beautiful pieces, played, during various series....who could not love that type of music played in the early evening....seeing as morse was so popular with the british public.....instead of generic 'pop' that even the 12-19 years old 'bracket', tend to-love-to-hate?
...and if you want to make people laugh...why not include a piped version of the MORSE theme tune...to your stereo-blaster 'litany' at clacton fountains?
...hmmm....let me guess - a typical reaction..."why are they playing that?"...etc etc....."to make you think...to make you feel like a detective" replies MI5 ONLINE...well, it would be 'fun' - wouldn't it?....to put 'that one' onto the tannoy system, now and then.
...all i am saying, is this....choose music/songs/melodies/lyrics that are acceptable to the majority....tourists as well as residents...oh and it isn't that hard...just 'think outside of the box'...and we're talking INSIGHT here, do you have it - or don't you?....see above....as well as previous notes.
