.....gill, do you remember our 'jaunt' around supermarkets?...to analyse 'self-service units' in terms of the screens....and also...well, you hadn't told me that you would do the following before you did it....but anyway, you sat down upon the check-out point 'weighing scales'....to then see your weight...."that's not right" you puzzled...."you've put on a few pounds" i laughed (not having seen the weight - upon the screen - obscured by yourself)...and so what was going on there, then?
well, let's begin with WHSMITHS and their 'man-who-does-the-self-service-units'....see previous notes upon him installing a screen/video that shows WHSMITH's customers buying cereal packets....
....WHSMITHS and their 'self-service machines'...did they have those machines constructed 'in house' or did they buy them in? they bought them in, apparently....and so did SAINSBURY's....the next question is...who was the 'middleman' who supplied the 'graphics' upon the screens? go figure....because the graphics are an advertising-company-up-to-no-good's-dream....because in many ways...those computer animated graphics are an advertising-company-from-hell's-dream....because the images are mainly subliminal...unless you, as the shopper/consumer.....take the time to really have a good look at the screen....however, a lot of people tend to shop, in a rush...'commuter time'....buying what you need - either going to or leaving the workplace....and making way for the next person in the queue, as fast as you can etc etc....only polite, eh? subliminally taking in 'quite a bit' without realising it...go figure.
anyway, this morning - i was to have my usual 'walk' along the beach, through the prom gardens....to then go shopping at sainsbury's...to meet 'MI5's best' in relation to her former role 'so many years ago now' - in fact, decades...in terms of catching helen browne out, at a certain company....go figure.
....and she had something to show me...on the self-service units...."can i take a picture? i love oddities" i was to reply..."of course you can" she laughed...as if it were an unexpected request...go figure.
"oranges and onions...." she had previously told me....the self-service units had been a 'problem' recently....because when she had looked up 'onions'...there were no entries...only lots of 'oranges' entries...."how many oranges can you have?" she laughed...i thought hard...the only 'different variety' that came to mind...was VALENCIA....i then thought about onions...along the lines of..."well you have red onions and white onions and spring onions...but that's only three, isn't it?"
she then showed me what was 'on' that self-service till - the last one to the right....a few onion entries and loads of orange entries....
hmmm, having thought about it, later on...well there are quite a few categories, for oranges - aren't there?
you have the really 'big ones' with a 'navel'....and then the medium-sized ones (the most popular).....and then the small ones...two varieties - normally on sale at christmas....
...and so yes, you might need that many 'differentiations' for oranges...on that self-service unit...the point here, is this...why are they all 'untagged/not labelled/not named'?
....the chinese takeaway...the chinese laundry...have we stumbled upon an 'orange' equivalent, here?...see previous notes.
