anyway, the basic 'lunacy' behind this was an experiment in....well, remember the taschmanns and their experimentation with public swimming baths....as electrode baths....with electric eels etc etc....and so crystals on the carpet.....the cat's whisker.....you know how much hair can be left upon the carpet.....and headphones?....listening devices behind the walls....add to that, the antennae on the top of the building.....not forgetting the intercom system used by etc etc....anyway, as far as surveillance goes - fire/smoke alarms are obviously the stock-in-trade for etc etc...although whalley used to prefer bugs-under-the-carpet etc etc....go figure:

additionally, i might add the following....to say that the house featured below....reminds me slightly of shana lewis' 'new-build' in that shanghai gated community (all of the houses looked similar)....along with what had upset her the most about living in that house....apparently a 'mountain'of sand, left by chinese workmen - by the side of it....who used to come back, to check it - periodically but never did anything about it....lol...sand, silicone, radio crystals...but hey, let's not blow this all up out of proportion - eh?....and yes, shana, as an ex-pat.....had been invited to be part of toby and matt's team of ex-pats to be part of that madame blanc writing team....and who had filled in the police/detective details, of that writing team, eh?....step forward mcgowan etc etc....and then it was stolen by two 'fat felons'.....more laughter....go figure:
