I am still searching for 'land of the setting sun' and came up with this 'very odd' question and answer forum:
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Does_Spain_mean_land_of_rabbits
Does Spain mean land of rabbits?
No absolutely not
Answer:
Not now, but the country's name has taken some interesting turns.
•It was first named Iberia from the word for river in 6000 BCE.
•This changed to Hesperia (Land of the setting sun) in 600 BCE by the Greeks
•Then the Carthaginians changed it to Ispania ( Land of the rabbits) in 300 BCE
•The Romans more or less kept the name as Hispania
•Spanish now call their country EspaƱa
So the country was once named "Land of Rabbits" but now the meaning is pretty much lost.
