"a highly secretive project" replies BI ONLINE...yes, but I haven't really got that far yet...you mean 'data security'...'confidentiality' etc etc...anyway, I've just skimmed through the headings...to home in on the following:

the first paragraph...what does that say to me? well it sounds like there is a 'huge margin for error' there...I mean to say how do you know if your participant is giving you accurate data...if family members are not contacted, to ascertain that the medical data-already-on-file is correct....and that what the family member is saying is also 'on the mark'?

upon a personal level....my mother was to tell me about uncle Arnold...who had been supposed to be blind and for many years...apparently it was diabetes that had caused his blindness...however he was then to regain his sight...to then tell everybody that he had never really been blind...and that he had never had diabetes...presumably he had fooled a lot of medical staff, along the way and down the years....go figure.

and what about the second paragraph? so despite the fact that 'distress' might have been caused...to the participant (do they need any more if they are a veteran suffering from PTSD?)...by researchers encouraging them to question their whole family's medical history...they are not allowed to know what the results of their blood tests are all about...or what the researchers are really looking for...looking at etc etc...go figure.
