need I add that 'elsa and fred' was inspired by 'life show'?
'life show' is one of the best films that I have ever seen in my life....elegiac...atmospheric...compelling....but then the subject matter is also profound....see previous notes upon the 'external beauty and the decay'...those conned into IVF...used and abused by the ill cult within DNA experiments....etc etc....the sheer inhumanity of those Nazi robots....of course, none of it can be said directly.....and therefore it is all done by metaphorical allusion...
'elsa and fred' is a reply to 'life show'...using an entirely different format and genre....Shirley maclaine was strong-armed into performing in it..."you have to do it - you're the only one who can do it"...and why you might ask? the film is 'in many ways' about roz...roz and her obsession with anita Ekberg along with her compulsion to 'live the dream'....and what else can I add...except that Shirley maclaine in her youth...reminds me somewhat of rene zellwegger...
...additionally orlando bloom (shanghai 2003) was to prove very helpful to Chinese intelligence in relation to 'taking snapshots'....they are also keen to track and trace an 'image-in-his-mind'....that he was to paint for them....who was she? a westerner, apparently...
