https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_(title)

...and isn't 'this' the most fascinating bit of all? if it is true...I cannot remember my parents ever mentioning it, once....both qualified medical doctors....

so you wouldn't necessarily know from their name plate or from the mail that they receive....that they are medically trained/qualified? ha ha ha....but in all seriousness...it looks like they don't want the general public to know...an air of discretion about the whole thing?

and what else?

we can see the historical 'move' from the middle-class and into the upperclasses:

"A surgeon who is also a professor is usually known as "Professor" and, similarly, a surgeon who has been ennobled, knighted, created a baronet or appointed a dame uses the corresponding title (Lord, Sir, Dame)."
